Hello dA people.
So, I prolly should explain why I haven't been updating my page in quite a while, and give y'all a general update on me.
GeneralSo I finished up 2nd semester quite well, although my workload was pretty heavy. I managed to pull through, got 3 A's and 3 B's, and I'm quite happy with the resulting work. It's definitely an improvement on last semester, and I'm extremely happy with how much I've grown as an artist. Although I'm going to miss CORE year and the variety of classwork, I'm excited to go into photo major full force and really improve on that front as much as I can. I know I had a good start in my two photo classes this past year and I'm excited to continue on with that in the following three.
Why I don't post as much here anymoreWell, this is where I get into some things you kiddies might not wanna hear.
I like dA, and I've been on here for what, 4 years now? That's a long time. However, I've found for my own purposes, it's easier to just create an art blog, watermark my work, and streamline it in the way I want to. I figure it's easier for me to update it that way, post a lot of work quickly, and get it out there in an easier way.
Now, that's not to say I won't post here anymore. I like getting comments from you all, and I like the feedback most of the time.
THIS is where I'm starting to get a little bit distanced from deviantART. I really love the idea of an artist community. That's what I love about school right now: it is a community of artists. It's a helpful, beneficial, community. And I don't get that same feeling here at deviantART anymore. I'm glad they implemented the critique option, but honestly isn't that how things generally should be? Ever since Photo 3 back in high school, we were taught don't say "it looks cool" or "it looks nice" or anything of that sort. Critique is about giving feedback, advice, etc...not about personal taste or what looks "cool". I think that this community would benefit as a whole if we all gave one piece of advice when we commented. It's good for both parties involved: The viewer can take a more critical view of both the artists' work and their own work, and the artist gets a good 2nd opinion. To make this
really a community, we have to act as one.
Now, I'd be lying if I said I was the most active wonderful member out there. I know that there are things I could do to improve as a member of dA as well. I'm not nearly as active as I have been in the past. I generally go on to check my messages (more often to clear them out). Every so often I will leave a comment on someone's work, and I try to be as honest as I can and actually give feedback. I never used to be as serious about that, but nowadays I try to be as often as I can. It's been a long journey for me on dA, actually. I've gone from doing contests and posting every piece of work that I could do, to kinda falling off the wagon a bit and posting occasionally, and then only the work that I was truly proud of. Looking back, I have changed a lot, and at this point I feel like this is more of who I was as an artist, whereas the blog is more a collection of new works that I feel better represent me now. Admittedly some of the work on here is very new, and work that I am proud of. And I also can't say that I'm at all ashamed of the previous work I've done (although I have to say I wish I could un-write some of the poetry I posted to here, just because it kinda chronicles a time in my life I'd rather not think about). I just find it hard to mix the old with the new here anymore.
I look at this as a new step in my life as an artist. Although I'm not fully saying goodbye to deviantART at this point, I also can't say that I expect to go back into it full swing the way I used to. I'm happy to direct you to the blog if you ask. I'll be keeping my subscription up just because I like keeping things the same, and I like supporting the community. And hey, who knows, I might start posting again and have more reason to keep it. But that's my story for now, and I'm sticking to it. I will still be around to check all of your new works as they appear in my inbox. And again, always be on the lookout for new works.
Unti then,

Lolwhoops. F**ked that one up real good with the top border.
